LETTER: Vote Pam Myhra for State Auditor
To the Editor:
Few of us may realize that Minnesota has a State Auditor, and fewer still might know the responsibilities of such position. Charged with oversight and accountability of taxpayer funds, the State Auditor role is critical, but recent headlines have called attention to poor oversight and accountability lacking in the Auditor’s office.
These include the Shakopee School District reporting a $4.5 million “budget error” with their superintendent being charged with embezzlement, and felony convictions at state-financed child care centers, with millions of taxpayer dollars funneled to overseas terrorist groups. We can, and must, demand more from our State Auditor.
Fortunately, in Pam Myhra we have a capable, qualified candidate for State Auditor who has the training, experience, and knowledge necessary put an end to these abuses. Pam Myhra is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with extensive auditing experience. Not only is she the only CPA running, she is the only candidate with auditing experience.
Pam Myhra’s proven track record includes both private sector accounting and extensive public service, having represented her community in the House of Representatives. During her tenure in the Minnesota legislature, Pam Myhra was the chief author of important legislation that resolved deficiencies in government transparency. Myhra’s bill had strong bipartisan support, passing the House unanimously, and signed into law by the Governor of the opposing party.
There ought to be no doubt about the need for a skilled and highly qualified State Auditor. I’d ask you to join me in supporting Pam Myhra for State Auditor.
